The following is an article that appeared on the Iowa Dove Hunter website about signing their dove bill into law on March 24, 2011. Iowans were "NEW" to dove hunting too!
THURSDAY, MARCH 24: GOVERNOR BRANSTAD SIGNS SF464 "DOVE BILL".
Governor Branstad wasted no time in fulfilling his promise to sign a bill allowing for the hunting of mourning doves if presented to him by the legislature. Senate File 464 returns the authority to manage mourning doves to the DNR. Iowa can now join 40 other states whose citizens can participate in the pursuit of an exciting game bird, the mourning dove. It is expected that the DNR will begin procedures required to establish a mourning dove hunting season in Iowa. More Pictures.
A big "THANK YOU!" to:
*Governor Branstad for signing this bill, and
*Senator Dick Dearden for originating the bill every year for many years. Talk about persistence. WOW! and
*Representative Richard Arnold who did a truly masterful job of handling the bill in the House, and
*All the Senators and Representatives who voted to pass this bill, and
*All of the outdoor organizations who supported this bill by communicating with their members, and
*Every citizen who communicated with their Representatives and Senators in the Iowa Legislature to make this day possible.
